E-Commerce Site Olivela Launches Beauty Category

Beauty routines are inherently about being selfish—in the best way. You’re taking time for yourself to take care of yourself, to feel like the best version of yourself. Luxury e-commerce site Olivela is now here to turn those private beauty rituals into an opportunity for public good. Today, it introduces the addition of a beauty category featuring beloved brands like By Terry, Christian Louboutin, and Sisley Paris.

Olivela first launched in June 2017 with fashion brands like Stella McCartney, Valentino, and Dolce & Gabbana. It works just like regular online shopping, only every sale gives up to 40 percent of proceeds to children’s-focused charities. Next to where prices are listed, you’re also given a concrete idea of how much you’re contributing — a $154 bottle of Oribe shampoo, for example, equals three days of health essentials.

“This expansion brings us even closer to the goal of empowering shoppers to use their purchasing power to make a significant difference,” founder and social entrepreneur Stacey Boyd tells ELLE.com, “Launching beauty is a natural evolution of our business to evolve the consumer experience to be all-encompassing, hopefully distinguishing Olivela as a true lifestyle brand pioneering the philanthropic retail concept across categories.”

For its new beauty category, Olivela is partnering with Too Young To Wed (TYTW) to provide health essential kits to child marriage survivors. Over the course of one month, the site hopes to provide aid to 1,000 girls. Boyd says the cause is “very near and dear” to her heart. She first learned about it through a photograph of a young girl named Nujood in Yemen who was a child bride. The picture was taken by TYTW founder, and photojournalist, Stephanie Sinclair.

“I reached out to [Sinclair] when I was in the process of developing Olivela, and I’m so honored that we are able to contribute to TYTW’s mission of empowering girls to decide for themselves if, when, and whom to marry,” Boyd said.
