Clueless Inspo, Whoopi’s Vagina Jacket and Everything Else That Happened on Day 2 of NYFW

Fashion

On Day Two of New York Fashion Week, the cult of puffy coats is taking shape. (We’ve spotted them on twelve runways, and it’s only Friday.) Outside, models huddle together and light cigarettes. And packed tight in our DMs, a series of serious questions began to appear. Super serious. Let’s explore.

Are Coats Now Dresses?

If Bella Hadid wears something, the world follows. So let’s see what happens after her turn on Friday’s Jason Wu catwalk, where the bombshell wore an embellished navy blue cocoon coat as if it were a red carpet look. For those who are always freezing at parties, it’s a rather genius idea…

Are Carnations Cool Now?

This morning, Tory Burch planted thousands of pink carnations on her runway, upgrading the flower from a Sex and the City punchline to a bright, fresh fashion motif. Is this the floral equivalent of a designer track pant? Maybe—and it just so happens, models like Aya Jones and Lexi Boling wore some great ones from Tory Sport backstage.

Will Selena Gomez Wear This?

BCBG brought Hollywood power to its presentation, enlisting Kate Young—stylist to Ms. Robbie, Michelle Williams, and Selena Gomez—to work her magic on their Fall 2018 collection. Maybe that’s why the models looked so damn cool in their oversized silk pajama suits and parkas over lace over denim. Young wasn’t the only talent in the mix: BCBG brought six female artists, including Langley Fox Hemingway, Adrienne Raquel, and Sinziana Velicescu, to the show. But the women weren’t just fashion show guests—they also designed the set, a massive mobile of illustrations, paintings, and photography.

When Netflix briefly added Sense & Sensibility to their menu last year, Twitter got very excited. There were memes; there were GIFs; there was a collective consensus that we will never forgive John Willoughby for marrying Miss Anna Grey and her $50,000. (Never!) Brock Collection seems to have had some viewing parties, too, because their empire waist florals and corset-cinched skirts are serving total Marianne Dashwood vibes. Get the look without the heartbreak—and maybe some Converse instead of the show’s ultra-high heels.

…or Can We Just Keep Watching Clueless?

Thank you, Matthew Adams Dolan, for the most on-point Cher and Dion revamps we could ever hope to see. Sabrina Carpenter, I think this has your name on it.

What’s Up, Whoopi?

The galaxy’s favorite View host was everywhere today, including Chromat, Jason Wu, and Cushnie et Ochs, where she arrived in a denim jacket that said “Major Key” and featured a stylized, galvanized vagina on the back designed by Amara Skye. Maybe the Tom Ford clutch was too low key 😉
