Flaming Hot Cheetos and a Truly Diverse Cast Make for an Awesome Chromat Show

Fashion

Inclusivity is a fashion industry buzzword that’s often used but rarely put into practice. Designers may seem like they’re eager to cast a range of models that represent all ages, races, and sizes, but fall short when it’s time to actually do so. Fortunately, Chromat designer Becca McCharen-Tran has always walked the walk. This season, with the help of casting director Gilleon Smith, McCharen-Tran took things to the next level.

Inspired by the notion of “escapism” (something many are looking for in our current political climate), plus-size models like Sabina Karlsson and Denise Bidot walked alongside pop star amputee Viktoria Modesta, who wore a transparent prosthesis for her turn on the catwalk. Actress-model Carmen Carrera and choreographer Mia Michaels of So You Think You Can Dance fame also made an appearance.

Much to show-goers deight, some models stomped the runway in swimwear and carried pool noodles, while others wore jumpsuits and dresses with flaming hot Cheetos strapped to their bodies with bungee cords.

At any other show none of this would make sense, but McCharen-Tran makes it work, pushing the conversation around what is beautiful (and who gets to decide that) even further.
