The CFDA Awards is to the fashion industry what the Oscars is to Hollywood. Organized by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the event honors the best designers of the year with previous winners including The Row’s Olsen twins, Tom Ford, and Raf Simons for Calvin Klein in 2017. Issa Rae, the creator of Insecure and the woman who introduced us to Jay Ellis, is set to host this year’s ceremony on June 4, 2018.

“Issa Rae is leading a new generation of performers who use their voice and humor to discuss social topics in a way that is relatable and poignant,” said Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the CFDA in a press release. The event is also trading in its previous location at the Hammerstein Ballroom in favor of Kings County. “We are also excited to take the awards to Brooklyn this year,” he said. “The Brooklyn Museum is a strong and iconic backdrop to one of fashion’s biggest nights.”
Unlike traditional red carpets featuring predictable sweetheart necklines and mermaid silhouettes, the CFDA Awards is an opportunity for showgoers to take sartorial risks. Honestly, it’s the main reason to tune in. Celebrities and influencers alike flood the scene with avant-garde looks, including Rihanna’s iconic Adam Selman naked dress that forever remains a source of inspiration. Rae’s own personal style has been turning heads too, recently seen on our own Best Dressed list with moments by Oscar de la Renta, Rosie Assoulin, and more fashion insider favorites. She takes the torch from Seth Meyers who conducted last year’s ceremony, and we couldn’t be more Issa-ted.
