Gigi Hadid is not here for the body-shaming trolls of the internet. In an interview for Harper’s Bazaar‘s May issue, she chatted with Blake Lively about growing up and becoming a supermodel and the difficulty of being criticized for her appearance. Trolls have called her both “too skinny” and “too big,” and Gigi admits that while she chalks most of it up as nonsense, the jabs at her appearance are still hurtful.

“Nowadays, people are quick to say, ‘I used to love Gigi’s body, and now she just gave in.'” Gigi revealed. “But I’m not skinny because I gave in to the industry. When I had a more athletic figure, I was proud of my body because I was an amazing volleyball player and horseback rider. But after discovering that I have Hashimoto’s [an autoimmune disease], I needed to eat healthy and work out.”

This isn’t the first time Gigi has addressed her critics or her experience with Hashimoto’s. In February, she released a series of tweets explaining the changes to her body (not that she needed to) and asked social media users to be more empathetic.

While Gigi admits that she does miss certain elements of her body from a few years back, she knows that she “can’t look back with regret.” She’s embracing her body, both past and present, and encourages everyone to love what they look like today.

“It’s my experience that your body will grow and change, and there’s beauty in it, no matter what.”
