In a thrilling combination of all your favorite things, there’s going to be a new The Secret Garden movie—and Colin Firth is in it.
While it’s currently filming in the UK, the remake doesn’t have a release date as yet. Based on Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic 1911 children’s book of the same name, the film will tell the story of a young orphan called Mary Lennox, who is sent to live with Archibald Craven, an uncle she’s never met. Firth will play Craven, and Harry Potter/Mamma Mia regular Julie Walters will play the strict housekeeper, Mrs Medlock. Newcomer Dixie Egerickx will play Mary, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The book has been adapted for film before, perhaps most famously in 1993; that beloved version starred Kate Maberly as Mary and Maggie Smith as Mrs Medlock. (Watch it right now—you know you want to!)
The film’s North American distribution rights were acquired at Cannes over the weekend by Global Road Entertainment. “The Secret Garden is one of the world’s most beloved stories of all time celebrating friendship, nature and the limitless power of childhood imagination,” said Rob Friedman, chairman and CEO.
