New Levi’s That Look Vintage

THE LOVE Levi’s Baggy Jeans, $98

As an avid vintage Levi’s collector, there’s nothing I love more than a no-stretch pair of jeans found in a suburban thrift store for five dollars. At the height of my collection I owned upwards of 30 pairs, ranging from as far back as the 1960s with a size range even wider. I had a bad habit of scouring eBay for a pair of Orange Tab flares two sizes too small or too large just for the thrill of owning another rare item. I’ve since slimmed down my collection and bitterly sold whatever didn’t fit, but my love of old Levi’s is forever.

As a result, I tend to turn my nose up at new styles. Besides one perfect pair from Everlane (which I only like because it fits like a retro cigarette), skinny jeans make me feel uncomfortable. I prefer a lean straight leg or a flattering kick flare. Given my short stature, I usually feel like wide leg pants makes me look like a child, but Levi’s introduction of the Baggy Jean (inspired by the ‘90s) is everything I need.

The jean hugs my waist, has no stretch, isn’t too long for my short inseam (26 inches), and makes me feel like a fly girl. It might not be a vintage pair that took three laundry washes and a day hanging in the sun to get just-right (insider tip on removing that thrift-store funk) but they’re just as good.
